Samsung Take the Wraps Off the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge Smartphone

The sixth generation of Samsung Galaxy S device has been officially announced at its Galaxy Unpacked Event. As rumored, Samsung debuted the Galaxy S6 alongside the Edge version of its Galaxy S6.

Basically, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge share the almost identical hardware and similar design language. The only major different between them is, of course, with the display - the Galaxy S6 edge stands out with its curved display on both sides.

Galaxy S6

Let us start with the ordinary-looking Galaxy S6. The Galaxy S6 sports a 5.1-inch Quad HD (2560 x 1440) Super AMOLED display, which has an ultra-high pixel density of 577 ppi. This 6.8 mm thin device is crafted with metal and glass made from the Corning Gorilla Glass 4.

Under the hood, it's powered by the Exynos 7420 Octa-core CPU and paired up with Mali-T760 GPU. The chipset is made up of four Cortex-A57 running at 2.1 GHz and four Cortex-A53 running at 1.5 GHz. Also the smartphone coupled with 3 GB of  LPDDR4 RAM.

Moving on to the camera, the Galaxy S6 comes with a brand new 16 MP camera with large f/1.9 aperture and Smart OIS. At the front, there's a 5 MP snapper with a f/1.9 aperture and a 90-degree wide-angle lens.

The Galaxy S6 will be available in three storage options: 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB - but there is a catch, no microSD card slot. The Galaxy S6 has a 2,550 mAh non-removable battery with Fast Charge and wireless charging support. It will also features a new touch-based fingerprint scanner, instead of the odd swipe-based method.

The Galaxy S6 edge features a dual edge display by curving to both sides. Yet, the screen remains the same as the Galaxy S6 at 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display and protected by Gorilla Glass 4.

Besides the curved display, other specs are identical to the Galaxy S6 too. It has the same Exynos 7420 Octa-core CPU (Quad 2.1 GHz + Quad 1.5 GHz), Mali-T760 GPU, 3 GB of LDPPR4 RAM and internal storage options of 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB.

The Galaxy S6 edge also pack with the same 16 MP f/1.9 Smart OIS rear camera and 5 MP f/1.9 90-degree wide-angle front facing camera. The Galaxy S6 edge gets a slightly larger 2,600 mAh non-removable battery.

Both devices will support LTE Cat 6 connectivity and runs on Android 5.0 out of the box. The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge will be available in White Pearl, Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum, Blue Topaz (Galaxy S6 only) and Green Emerald (Galaxy S6 edge only).

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge will be rolling out globally from April 10 and no pricing details were revealed yet.
